DUSHANBE, January 11, Asia-Plus — Priorities of further expansion of cooperation between the counternarcotics agencies of Tajikistan and the Russian Federation have already been set, Nail Mazitov, representative of Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN) in Tajikistan, remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on January 11.
According to him, the Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA) and Russia’s FSKN have established effective cooperation in exchanging information on drug-trafficking issues
Mazitov noted that no one of the CIS counternarcotics agencies has DCA’s experience in combating drug trafficking.
The representative office of FSKN in Tajikistan was established in late 2007 and the sides are currently determining place of the FSKN local office in Dushanbe, the FSKN representative said. “I am still alone here, but my deputy is expected to arrive in the Tajik capital in the near future,” Mazitov said, noting that the FSKN representative office in Tajikistan will have a staff of three.
During the news conference it was noted that 460 Tajik nationals were detained in the Russian Federation on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking, which is 1,340 people or 74 % fewer than in 2000, when 1,800 Tajiks were detained in Russia for drug smuggling. .
