DPT urges government to take measures to resolve energy crisis

DUSHANBE, January 15, Asia-Plus  — The Democratic Party (DPT) has made an official statement calling on the government and the parliament to take measures to resolve the energy crisis.

Speaking to journalists in Dushanbe on January 15, Rahmatullo Valiyev, deputy head of the Mahmadruzi Iskandarov-run wing of the DPT, said, “The Democratic Party demands that the government should fulfill its constitutional obligations and resolve social problems facing the population.”

The statement, in particular, says the DPT expresses dissatisfaction that authorities are not even able to provide electricity supplies to hospitals and maternity houses, which sometimes causes death of newborn babies.

According to the DPT, quite a real way of this situation is to reduce electricity supplies to the Tajik aluminum plant, which consumes some 7-8 billion kWh of electrical power per year.

“Economic interests should not prevail over health of nation,” Valiyev said, expressing hope that the government will take any positive steps to resolve energy crisis in the country.  Otherwise, the party will initiate campaign to urge the president to declare a state of emergency in the country, according to him.
