Yakjilav deposit has possible silver reserves of more than 50,000 tons, says geology directorate head

DUSHANBE, January 17, Asia-Plus  — Azim Ibrohim, head of Tajik Main Geology Directorate, says that possible silver reserves of the Yakjilav (phonetically spelled) in GBAO’s Murgab district could be even more than reserves of the Big Konimansour in northern Tajikistan, which are estiamted at more than 50,000 tons.

According to him, Kazakhstan’s mining company C.A. Minerals in cooperation with the Pamir  prospecting expedition of the Main Geology Directorate is currently developing the deposit in Gorno Badakhshan.  “The Kazakh company plans to invest totaling some $5 million in development of the Yakjilav deposit,” Ibrohim said.

He noted that according to findings of the Soviet time, one ton of the deposit’s ore contains around 1-2 kilograms of silver, while one ton of the Big Konimansour deposit’s ore contains around 50 grams of silver.

On the results of work carried out by the directorate last year, Ibrohim said that they had discovered a deposit of alumina in Gorno Badakhshan.  The deposit has possible alumina reserves of some 75 million, according to him.   The prospecting work there is funded by Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO).
