DUSHANBE, February 7, Asia-Plus — An official presentation of a research formally titled “National Research on Stigma and Discrimination against People Living with HIV in Tajikistan”, prepared by specialists from the Center for Strategic Studies jointly with the Ministry of Health (MoH), will be held at the Center for Strategic Studies on February 12, Murodali Rouziyev, director of the Republican AIDS-Prevention Center, told Asia-Plus on Thursday.
According to him, the meeting participants will discuss issues related to problems facing HIV sufferers in the country.
“Representatives from the health sector, lawyers as well as HIV sufferers themselves have taken part in preparing the research,” the director said, noting that the survey shows to what extent Tajik society is ready to accept people living with HIV.
Besides, a report reflecting preparedness of the education sector for preventing measures to reduce and prevent stigma and discrimination against HIV sufferers in educational facilities, according to him.
The meeting is also expected to work out a plan of actions to improve HIV/AID-preventing potential, Rouziyev said.
The Republican AIDS Center director also noted that a polymerase-chain reaction lab (PCR-lab) will have been launched at the center by end of this month. “Russia’s company InterLabService has won a tender for purchase of test-system, which was conducted in late January,” Rouziyev said. According to him, the Russian company should deliver test-systems for 500 test by the end f February.
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) enables researchers to produce millions of copies of a specific DNA sequence in approximately two hours. This automated process bypasses the need to use bacteria for amplifying DNA.
