DUSHANBE, February 29, Asia-Plus — Tajik state energy company Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) intends to increase electricity supplies to Dushanbe by two hours starting from March 1.
This measure will result in the supply of daily electrical power being increased from 16 to 18 hours. If electricity supplies are currently cut off from 10:00 to 18:00, beginning on March 1, electricity supplies will be cut off from 12:00 to 18:00, the source at Barqi Tojik said. However, it is still premature to speak about lifting the electricity rationing measures, the source said.
According to the Tajik power holding, some 23 million kWh of electrical power were generated by the country’s hydropower plants yesterday. On February 28, the rate of water inflow to the reservoir powering the Norak hydroelectric power station (HPS) was 170 cubic meters per second.
In the meantime, Tajikistan yesterday received 11.5 million KWh of electricity from neighboring countries. 11.3 million KWh of electricity were supplied from Turkmenistan and 200,000 kWh of electrical power were supplied form Kyrgyzstan.
As it had been reported earlier, Uzbekistan cut off exports of electricity to Tajikistan on February 24. According to Barqi Tojik, the Uzbek energy authorities them that cutoff was due to unidentified technical problems in their thermoelectric power plants. According to some sources, the delivery of Uzbek electricity is expected to resume on March 1.
We will recall that the electricity rationing was introduced in the Tajik capital on February 6.
According to the power holding, Dushanbe now receives electricity at the rate of 6.5 million kWh per day. The Sughd Khatlon provinces currently receive 2.3 million kWh of electricity per day each and the districts subordinate to the center (RRPs) receive 2 million kWh of electrical power per day.
