DUSHANBE, March 1, Asia-Plus  — The Government of Italy has provided 250,000 euros’ worth of humanitarian assistance to Tajikistan in connection with the UN’s Flash Appeal for Tajikistan in response to the current critical situation that had emerged in the country because of unusually cold weather and energy crisis, according to Tajik MFA.

The source at Tajik MFA said that Italy sends 150,000 euros to Tajikistan through UN WFP and 100,000 euros’ worth of essential items through UNICEF.

We will recall that a plane with Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian aid on board landed at the Dushanbe airport Friday afternoon.  It was the eighth plane with humanitarian aid from Saudi Arabia.  The first plane arrived in Dushanbe on February 19.  The planes delivered some 80 tons foodstuffs, warm blankets, and other relief supplies.  Besides, Saudi Arabia has allotted 10 million US dollars in no-strings aid to Tajikistan.

Countries and international relief organizations are continuing to provide humanitarian assistance to Tajikistan, which has suffered an estimated more than $1 billion in economic damage from natural disasters and energy crisis.
