Dushanbe, March 31, Asia-Plus — On Saturday March 29, President Emomali Rahmon held a meeting with the representatives of the country’s public health system in the Hissor district, some 17 kilometers west of Dushanbe.
The meeting mainly focused on present state of the health sector in the country.
Speaking at the meeting, the head of state noted that this year’s budget provides funds for the health sector 43 percent more than last year. According to him, 54 investment projects totaling more than 420 million somonis are currently being implemented in the health sector. The president pointed to the necessity of targeted use of funds and raising quality of medical services offered to the population.
He noted that a new system of paying wages to medical workers will be introduced in the country soon.
The head of state reminded that they had shaken up practically all senior officials at the Ministry of Health as failing to provide enhancement of the health sector. Rahmon also pointed out the law pace of reform in the health sector and dissatisfaction of the population with quality of medical services provided.
“People do not trust in the public health system,” he stressed, adding that primary medical aid, a general structure of hospitalization, coordination of primary medical aid and purchase of and provision with medicines do not meet necessary requirements.
Emomali Rahmon pointed to the necessity of increasing access to medical services for people, first of all vulnerable sections of the population, and introducing per capita financing in the country.
He also stressed the necessity of developing family medicine in the country. “Only 680 family physicians and some 1,500 family nurses currently work in Tajikistan, while the country now has more than 4,000 family physician and nurse vacancies,” the president said.
Rahmon ordered the Ministry of Health (MoH) to prepare proposals on reorganizing structures of medical facilities and submit them for consideration to the government.
President holds meeting with medical workers in Hissor
After the meeting, the head of state inaugurated a renovated health center with 100 beds in the district. The center will provide medical services to rural residents of Hissor and Shahrinav districts
According to the MoH said that 13, 267 doctors and 29,437 nurses currently work with medical facilities in the country. Tajikistan now has 3,142 physician and 4,043 nursing vacancies.
