DUSHANBE, April 19, Asia-Plus  — Prospects of cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran in processing of farm produce were a focus of a meeting of the head of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) with a delegation of Iran’s Guliston Province led by its CCI head Amir Talibi that was held in Dushanbe on April 17, Tajik CCI press service said.      

In the course of the talks, Sharif Said noted that Iran could invest in development of Tajik enterprises on processing leather and wool, cotton, cocoons, fruits and vegetables, producing juices and tinned goods.  

The head of Iran’s cottonseed processing committee, Mr. Paksirisht, who also attended the meeting expressed wish to take on lease plots in Tajikistan fro growing cotton with further processing it into manufactured goods in Tajikistan.   

Iranian specialists also offered to consider the possibility of processing cotton purchased from Tajik farming units.  They also noted that Iranian entrepreneurs are ready to launch Tajik-Iranian joint ventures on manufacturing cotton cloth and vegetable oil.  

The CCI press service said that Iranian guests had also proposed to launch joint ventures on growing and processing of mushrooms in Tajikistan.  The first such enterprise was launched in Khujand, Sughd province last year.    

 The Tajik CCI head also outlined carpet weaving as area of which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries and proposed to organize training for Tajik specialists.

Mr. Talibi asked Tajik CCI or help in finding business partners and getting permanent visas for Iranian entrepreneurs.             

On April 18, the Iranian delegation visited the northern Sughd province.
