DUSHANBE, July 22, 2008, Asia-Plus — The Deputy Health Minister, Sohibnazar Rahmonov, told a press conference in Dushanbe on July 21 that since 2004, 19 international financial institutions and 27 international organizations have provided totaling $121.5 million to support enhancement of Tajikistan’s health sector in 2004-2010.
According to him, $26.576 million of the mentioned amount have been provided in form of loans. Funds provided by these institutions and organizations go to financing 54 investment health care improvement projects in the country. “Major of these projects is currently being implemented,” the deputy minister said.
He also noted that under support of the unit for implementation of the Community and Basic Health Project, sponsored by the World Bank, repairs for totaling 1.4 million somonis had been made to 10 medical facilities in the Khatlon province.
Rahmonov added that nine health points having been constructed in Kulob under financial support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
