KHUJAND, July 22, 2008, Asia-Plus — Two suicides were registered in the Sughd province on July 21, according to the Sughd police directorate.
The first case was reported in the Istaravshan district, where a 20-year-old woman from one of local villages committed suicide.
The second case was reported in the Konibodom district. An 18-year-old teenager from the Lohouti jamoat killed himself.
The Konibodom prosecutor’s office is investigating the cases.
The source at the Sughd police directorate said that 154 suicides and suicide attempts have been registered in the province over the first six months of this year. Many of those who committed suicide were motivated by family and economic problems.
