QURGHON TEPPA, July 22, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The city of Sarband in the Khatlon province will now receive domestic natural-gas, Qutbuddin Khojayev, head of Qurghonteppagaz (Qurghon Teppa natural-gas distributor), said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, a gas pipeline from the gas field Qiziltumshuq in the Rumi district to Sarband is being constructed under financial support of the Tajik state natural-gas distributor, Tojikgaz.

“To date, Sarband has received Uzbek natural gas and the city residents have had natural gas only two hours per day,” said Khojayev, “Therefore, we have decided to construct the gas pipeline to the city from the Qiziltumshuq field; the pipeline will be more than five kilometers in length.”

The project will allow providing regular natural-gas supplies to the city at lower prices, the Qurghonteppagaz head said.  “The price of the domestic gas will be 4 somonis per one family member per month, while the price of the Uzbek natural gas is 4-5 times higher,” Khojayev said, noting that the pipeline is expected to be finished by Tajikistan’s Independence Day (September 9).

He added that the pipeline will supply gas to the population and Sarband’s industrial enterprises, except Tajikazot (the plant for producing mineral fertilizers).
