DUSHANBE, August 26, 2006, Asia-Plus — Ahead of a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) due on August 28 Tajikistan has closed its common border with neighboring countries, including Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and China, to ensure security of the summit, according to the main border directorate within the State Committee for National Security (GKNB).
The border is closed from August 24 to August 30 and additional mobile posts will patrol difficult mountain stretches of border.
All Tajik law enforcement agencies have been put on a state of alert and guarding of all facilities of statewide significance has been strengthened.
