KHUJAND, September 1, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Medical workers in the northern Sughd province will carry out a pneumonia immunization campaign amongst pupils at orphanages and people living in elderly centers, Mumin Bobojonov, head of the branch of the Immunoprophylactic Center for Sughd, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.  

According to him, a list of those to be vaccinated should be prepared by September 5 and then the cities and the districts in Sughd will receive pneumonia vaccines and launch the immunization campaign.  Vaccines will also be distributed to elderly people  above 65 who are registered with polyclinic as amenable to lung diseases.  The pneumonia immunization campaign will run through September 25.  

 10,000 doses of the vaccine pneumovax (Pneumococcal Vaccine Polyvalent) have been provided by the United States, Bobojonov said.
