KULOB, September 16, 2008, Asia-Plus — Farmers in five cotton-growing districts of Khatlon’s Kulob region have reached 30 percent of this year’s cotton target, having yielded 23,462 tons of raw cotton by September 15, Abdullo Rajabov, head of the Kulob agriculture directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, the cotton-harvesting campaign is progressing in the region and cotton-pickers currently yield up to 1,500 tons of cotton per day.
“On September 14, 37,712 people, including 5,359 volunteers from the city and district enterprises and organizations, worked on the cotton plantations,” Rajabov said, noting that of 5,359 volunteers, 3,059 were from the city and the district of Kulob.
We will recall that Kulob region has pledged to yield 79,350 tons of cotton this year.
