Sughd external trade turnover rises 46.7% in nine months to October 1, reaching nearly $800 mln

KHUJAND, October 15, 2008, Asia-Plus  — In January-September 2008, the foreign trade turnover of the Sughd province, including electric energy and natural gas, has amounted to 799,514 million US dollars, which is 146.7 percent of the January-September 2007 level, according to the Sughd agency for statistics.  

The trade balance was negative and amounted to 567.3851 million dollars.   

             Exports of goods over the report period have amounted to 116.0648 million dollars, which is 1.3 percent or 147,000 dollars more than in the same period of last year. 

Imports of goods into the province in January-September 2008 have amounted to $683.4499 million, which is 58.8 percent or 252.99 million dollars more than in January-September 2007.

Over the same nine-month period, the Sughd province has had foreign trade relations with 60 countries of the world, including 11 CIS states.  

The CIS states accounted for 66.4 percent ($530.5686 million) of Sughd’s external trade turnover in January-September 2008, and other foreign countries accounted for 33.6 percent ($268.9461 million).

Over the report period, the far abroad countries have been Sughd’s main export partners, accounting for 54 percent ($62.6488 million) of its exports.

Imports have come mainly from the CIS states, which have accounted for 68.5 percent ($467.9198 million) of Sughd’s imports in January-September 2008. 

Share of electrical power has accounted for 3.8 percent of the Sughd external trade turnover.  In all, the province has imported 2.0434 billion kWh of electricity for $30.6517 million over the same nine-month period.  

Over the report period, the province has imported 88.8 million cubic meters of natural gas for $13.2725 million.
