Tajik aluminum group, Norway’s Hydro Aluminum negotiate conducting feasibility study for Shurob HPS

DUSHANBE, October 24, 2008, Asia-Plus — Tajik Aluminum Company (Talco) and Norway’s Hydro Aluminum have come to an agreement on conducting feasibility study for construction of a 1,000 MW Shurob hydroelectric power station (HPS) in southern Tajikistan, Asia-Plus has learned from Sayohat Qurbonova, a spokeswoman fro Talco. 

According to her, the agreement was reached during an international conference “Clean Energy: New Opportunities of Development of Renewable and Alternative Energy Resources in Tajikistan” that was held in Dushanbe on October 22.  

Besides, Hydro Aluminum also intends to invest in modernization of electrolysis workshops 9 and 10.  

“This agreement demonstrates Talco’s convergence for promoting solution of the environmental protection problems in the region and meeting international ecological standards,” Qurbonova said.  

Over the first nine months of this year alone, Tajik aluminum group has spent 19 million somoni for the environmental protection events, the spokeswoman said.
