DUSHANBE, December 6, 2008, Asia-Plus — On Friday December 5, while being on his state visit to Ukraine, President Emomali Rahmon visited Ukraine’s leading turbine-producing company, Turboatom, in Kharkov, according to presidential press service.
Presidential spokesman Abdufattoh Sharifzoda noted that speaking at a joint press conference in Kiev, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko noted on December 4 that Turboatom has had long partnership with Tajikistan and some 85 percent of hydroengineering equipment installed at hydroelectric power plants (HPP) in Tajikistan had been manufactured at Turboatom and other Ukrainian industrial enterprises. The Ukrainian leader added that two units for Roghun HPP that had been delivered to Tajikistan in the 1980s already had already been manufactured at Turboatom.
During his visit to Turboatom, President Rahmon noted that Tajikistan was interested in expansion of cooperation with that enterprise in modernizing its operating HPPs and providing the new ones with hydroengineering equipment, the spokesman said.
According to him, the Ukrainian president outlined hydropower as area of which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries. “Yushchenko said Ukraine intends to bring cooperation with Tajikistan to the strategic level,” said Sharifzoda, “According to him, Ukraine and Tajikistan have good potentials to expand bilateral cooperation and increase a two-way trade and trade with Central Asia’s states.”
Turboatom specializes in the production of turbines for thermoelectric and nuclear power stations, hydraulic turbines for hydroelectric power stations and hydro-accumulator stations, gas turbines for thermoelectric power stations, and steam-and-gas equipment as well as other energy equipment. A 75.22% stake in the enterprise belongs to the state and is managed by the State Property Fund.
We will recall that President Emomali Rahmon was on a state three-day visit to Ukraine on December 3-5. Te visit resulted in singing of a joint statement of the presidents and six cooperation agreements.
