DUSHANBE, May 13, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Customs officers stopped two heroin smuggling attempts at Dushanbe and Kulob airports yesterday.

According to the Customs Service press center, customs officers seized more than one kilogram of heroin at the Dushanbe and Kulob airports on May 12.

An inspection of passengers on the Kulob-Moscow flight found 800 grams of heroin hidden in suitcase belonging to Suhrob Zaydulloyev.

The same day, Marina Akhmetova was detained at the Dushanbe airport for an attempt to transporting some 300 grams of heroin to the Russian city of Samara.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against both drug couriers and an investigation is under way.
