Rahmon congratulates Ahmadinejad on landslide victory in Iran’s presidential election

DUSHANBE, June 15, 2009, Asia-Plus  — President Emomali Rahmon has sent a telegram of congratulations to Mahmoud Ahamdinejad on his reelection as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, according to presidential press service.

In his message, Emomali Rahmon, in particular, noted: “I have honor to congratulate you on your reelection as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.  Your landslide victory in free and transparent elections is evidence that Iranian people supports your policy.”  Rahmon also expressed hope for further expansion of friendly relations between Tajikistan and Iran.

We will recall that the official results gave Mr. Ahmadinejad 63% of the vote and 34% for Mr. Mousavi.  Iran”s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei praised the high turnout of 85% and described the count as a “real celebration.”
