DUSHANBE, July 16, 2009, Asia-Plus — In a report released at a press conference in Dushanbe, Director of the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption Fattoh Saidov revealed on July 16 that according to findings by the anticorruption agency, corruption has cost Tajikistan at 34.2 million somoni over the first six months of this year.
Over the report period, the agency has conducted 605 inspections at state-run economic entities and other federally funded organizations.
Overall, 800 people have been implicated in wrongdoing and disciplinary and administrative action have been imposed upon them. 38 officials have been sacked.
In January June 2009, the anticorruption agency has uncovered 408 corruption cases. The agency has investigated 178 criminal proceedings over the same six-month period and 150 criminal proceedings instituted against 207 people have already moved to courts.
