DUSHANBE, July 17, 2009, Asia-Plus — On Thursday July 16, President Emomali Rahmon held a number of bilateral meetings on sidelines of the 15th summit of summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, according to presidential press service.
Rahmon’s meeting with Serbian President Boris Tedic focused on issues related to establishment and expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Serbia in different fields. President Rahmon invited his Serbian counterpart to pay an official visit to Tajikistan and President Tedic accepted the invitation with appreciation
The same day, Rahmon met with Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh in Sharm el-Sheikh. The two discussed issues of practical realization of the results of President Rahmon’s visit to Yemen and President Saleh’s visit to Tajikistan, the press service said.
President Rahmon also held talks with Thailand’s Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya yesterday. The sides discussed the process of implementation of agreements reached between the two countries during President Rahmon’s visit to Thailand in August 2005 as well as bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Thailand in different fields. Thailand’s minister pointed out a significant place of Tajikistan in the Central Asian region, according to the press service.
Yesterday, President Rahmon also met with Mina Madkour, special correspondent of
Al-Sharq Al-Awsat
, a daily in London, and representatives of other media. “The Tajiks in the Mirror of History” by Emomali Rahmon was the focus of the meeting, presidential press service said.
Today, President Rahmon will leave Egypt for Moscow to attend Russian President’s Cup Horse Race. The CIS presidents will meet at Russian President’s Cup Horse Race that will be held in Moscow on July 18. During his stay in Moscow, Rahmon is scheduled to hold a number meeting with his CIS counterparts, including Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
