KHUJAND, July 21, 2009, Asia-Plus — In a report released at a press conference in Khujand, the Sughd anticorruption directorate chief Jumanazar Rahmatov revealed on July 20 that 117 corruption-related crimes have been reported in Sughd province over the first six months of this year.
“According to findings by the anticorruption directorate, corruption has cost the province at some 6.2 million somoni over the report period and more than 1.5 million of this amount have been reimbursed to this date,” Rahmatov said.
In January-June 2009, 13 officers from the Ministry (MoD) have got involved in the crime-relation crimes in the province, the anticorruption directorate chief said. “Besides, six officials from the health sector, five from local authorities, five from banking system, four from the agrarian sector, four from the branch of Barqi Tojik power holding here, three from the education sector, two from the industrial sector, one from police directorate and one from judicial system have committed corruption-related crimes over the same six-month period,” Rahmatov said.
According to him, criminal proceedings have been instituted against them on charges of embezzlement or misappropriation, office abuse, bribery, service fraud, etc.
