DUSHANBE, July 21, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs plans to set up the crisis center for girls in Dushanbe.

Speaking to reporters in Dushanbe, the first deputy chairperson of the Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs Qimmatgul Allaberdiyeva noted on July 20 that the center is set up in the framework of the Prevention Traffic in Women and Children Program that is supported by the European Commission, UNIFEM, the British Legal Children’s Center and the Government of Tajikistan.  According to her, the center will make available legal and psychological support as well as education to girls aged 10 to 18, who became victims of violence and/or traffic, during six months.

“After the rehabilitation period, girls will be provided with jobs and dwelling that will be rented or purchased under the mentioned program,” Allaberdiyeva said, adding that similar centers would be also set up in 10 cities and districts.

A total cost of the program, designed for 3.5 years, is more than €500,000 and the Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs will coordinate it, she said.   The target group members already include 20 girls, Allaberdiyeva said.
