The United States carried out strikes on the Iranian port of Qeshm and the area of Bandar Abbas, but Washington stated that they do not consider this a resumption of war with Iran. This was reported by Fox News and Axios, citing American officials, Meduza writes.

According to Iran’s Fars News Agency (FNA), the attack damaged the Bahman commercial pier on Qeshm Island. Meanwhile, Tasnim claims that Iranian naval forces attacked three American destroyers near the Strait of Hormuz after the US strike on an Iranian oil tanker.

CENTCOM stated that American forces acted “in self-defense.” According to Washington, Iranian military launched missiles and drones at US ships, and also fired from small boats as the destroyers passed through the Strait of Hormuz towards the Gulf of Oman.

In response, the US eliminated “immediate threats” and struck targets that were allegedly used for attacks on American forces. The targets included missile and drone launch sites, command posts, and reconnaissance facilities.

As noted by Reuters, the incident occurred amid the anticipation of Tehran’s response to the American proposal to end the conflict. On the eve, Donald Trump stated that the negotiations between the US and Iran went “very well.”

In early April, the parties agreed to a ceasefire, which was later unilaterally extended by Washington. Despite regular mutual accusations of violating the ceasefire, the US previously stated that the ceasefire continues to be in effect.
