Iran has sent a new proposal to the US, which includes opening the Strait of Hormuz for shipping and ending the war. Meanwhile, it is suggested that discussions on the Iranian nuclear program be postponed to a later date. According to American publication Axios, as reported by RBC, this was stated by an American official and two sources familiar with the situation.

According to the publication, the initiative was conveyed through Pakistani intermediaries. It provides for either an extension of the ceasefire for a long period or the conclusion of a full-fledged agreement to end the war. The White House confirmed receiving the proposal; however, Washington’s reaction remains unclear.

It is expected that on April 27, US President Donald Trump will hold a meeting on Iran in the White House’s Situation Room. As Axios notes, the meeting is planned to discuss the deadlock in negotiations and possible further steps by the American side.

Sources of the publication also report that Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during meetings in Islamabad on April 25, raised the issue of excluding the nuclear program topic from the current agenda. According to them, he indicated to the mediators — Pakistan, Egypt, Turkiye and Qatar — that there is no unified position within the Iranian leadership regarding the US demands.

Washington, in turn, insists on the suspension of uranium enrichment and the removal of its stockpiles from Iranian territory.

It should be noted that since April 24, Abbas Araghchi has been visiting several countries to discuss the conflict surrounding Iran. After holding talks in Islamabad, Araghchi traveled to Oman, where he conducted negotiations with the Sultan of that country, Haitham bin Tariq, then made a second visit to Islamabad, and from there flew to Moscow. According to Araghchi himself, “the purpose of these trips is close coordination with our partners on bilateral issues and consultations on regional events.”
