Number of reported crimes increases in Gorno Badakhshan

KHOROG, July 21, 2009, Asia-Plus  — In January-June 2009, 198 crimes have been reported in Gorno Badakhshan, which is 16 cases, or 8.7 percent, more than in the same period of last year, the first deputy chief of the GBAO police directorate, Nazarbek Khudoyorov, announced at a press conference in Khorog yesterday.

According to him, the numbers of hooliganism, fraud and thefts have increased over the report period.

“Compared to January-June 2008 the number of reported crimes using weapons has significantly reduced,” said Khudoyorov, “The number of crimes committed by minors has also decreased over the first six months”

Over the same six-month period, 11 serious crimes have been registered in the region; all the serious crimes reported over the report period have been solved.

The crime detection rate for January-June 2009 was 82 percent, the GBAO police official said.

Khudoyorov added that 74 firearms and more than 20 kilograms of narcotic drug had been seized by local police over the report period.
