President Nazarbaev urges population to keep their money at state banks

CA-NEWS (KZ)

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev on Tuesday met with top managers of Kazkommertsbank and Halyk Bank, where he gave his opinion of the situation in the financial sphere of the country, reported the president”s press office.

“The talks that our banking system is weak are not correct,” Nursultan Nazarbaev said.

“I have listened to the reports about the situation in economy and financial sector of the country… Confidence in the Kazakh banking system is growing today. Rumors that our banks will go bankrupt, that some foreign bank will come and all the money will go there – those are absolutely incorrect,” Nazarbaev said.

“I say with full responsibility that we will not allow any foreign bank to control Kazakh banks. We will support them because the financial system is a priority for us,” he declared.

“You know that the government has entered into Kazkommertsbank as the biggest shareholder, monitors everything what is going on there and supports this bank. The government has entered into the Halyk Bank, it has more than 20%-stake in the Bank and will support it too. The state fully controls BTA-Bank, which is under restructuring,” Nazarbaev added.
