Tajik, Russian MoIs to develop plan of actions for implementation of labor migration agreement

DUSHANBE, August 25, 2009, Asia-Plus  — An August 21 joint board meeting of the ministries of interior (MoIs) of Tajikistan and Russia decided to develop the plan of actions for implementation of the government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Russia on labor activity and protection of rights of Tajik nationals in Russia and protection of rights of Russian nationals in Tajikistan, according to the Tajik Ministry of Interior.

The source says the plan is designed for 2010-2011 and the sides decided to develop proposals on principles and mechanisms of organized selection, training and sending of Tajik nationals to Russia for seasonal work by November 1.

Migrations services and their sub-divisions are to take additional measures to detect organizations and persons involved in illegal intermediary activity.

The August 21 meeting considered issues related to cooperation between the interior ministries of the two countries in combating illegal migration and investigating crimes committed transnational criminal groups.

During the meeting, it was noted that 6,419 crimes have been committed by Tajik nationals over the first half-year of 2009, which 28.4 percent, or 1,420 cases, more than in the same period of last year.

In the meantime, 1,146 crimes have been committed against Tajik nationals over the report period.  The listed crimes were plunders (140), thefts (171), robberies (79) and killings (33).
