KHUJAND, September 7, 2009, Asia-Plus — Warrant Officer Jabbor Khudoynazarov serving at the border-crossing checkpoint Madaniyat on the Tajik-Uzbek border in the Sughd province has got long jail term for involvement in drug trafficking.
The Khujand military court last week sentenced Jabbor Khudoynazarov and Khujand resident Mahmoud Mirzoyev to 15 and 12 years in prison respectively and they serve their terms in a high-security penal colony. The sentence followed their conviction on the charge of having been involved in acquiring and pushing drugs.
The source at the Khujand military court said that Khudoynazarov and Mirzoyev were arrested on April 4, 2008. “On April 3, 2009, Mirzoyev sold 10 kilograms of raw opium to Khudoynazarov for 4,100 U.S. dollars,” said the source, “Khudoynazarov was detained on April 4, 2008 while he was trying to push the purchased narcotics Mirzoyev was also arrested the same day.”
