DUSHANBE, September 7, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Tajik and Uzbek energy authorities are currently discussing regime and other conditions of the delivery of Turkmen electricity via Uzbek power systems to Tajikistan during autumn-winter period, Sanat Rahimov, the head of Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

“Turkmen electricity deliveries to Tajikistan in autumn-winter 20092010 do not exceed the volumes of the previous years and may be provided in accordance with transfer capability of Uzbek power systems,’ Rahimov said, noting that Turkmenistan supplied 1.07 billion kWh of electricity to Tajikistan in autumn-winter period 2008-2009.

According to him, Turkmen and Uzbek specialists are currently working on repairing power transmission line linking the Turkmen Mary power station with the Uzbek Qoraqul power station.  “This year, four power transmission towers have fallen due to bad weather conditions,” said Rahimov, “We hope the taken measures will allow beginning the supply of Turkmen electricity to Tajikistan in time.”

We will recall that Tajikistan and Turkmenistan signed an agreement on Turkmen electricity deliveries to Tajikistan in autumn-winter period on September 27, 2007.  Under this document, Turkmenistan supplies 1.2 billion kWh of electricity to Tajikistan per year during the period till 2012.
