KHUJAND, November 20, 2009, Asia-Plus — Chinese national was detained at the Khujand airport last Thursday (November 19) for carrying a large amount of contraband USD, according to the Sughd customs service.
Chinese national He Haysin (phonetically spelled) was bound for Urumqi, China’s Xinjiang-Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR).
An inspection of passengers on the Khujand-Urumqi flight found 150,000 U.S. dollars hidden in a suitcase belonging He Haysin. “The money was not declared,” the source said.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against He Haysin under the provisions of Article 289, Part 1 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – large-scale contraband.
