DUSHANBE, December 2, 2009, Asia-Plus — A scientific-practical conference entitled “Kazakhstan’s OSCE Chairmanship: Regional Problems” was held in Dushanbe on November 30.
Organized by the Kazakh Embassy in Dushanbe in cooperation with the Tajik Center for Strategic Studies, the conference brought together known politicians and public figures as well as experts and researchers of Tajikistan. Representatives from a number of diplomatic missions and international organizations active in Tajikistan attended the event as well, the source at the Center for Strategic Studies said.
The conference participants discussed different aspects and directions of activity of the OSCE in the context of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the Organization.
According to the source, Kazakh diplomats have proposed to look at problems facings the region, which is rich in energy resources but socially undeveloped, in new way. “Tajik researchers and diplomats who attended the event supported Astana’s initiative,” he said.
Giving a paper at the conference, Tajik political scientist Abdullo Rahnamo, in particular, noted that election of Kazakhstan to assume the chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) was a significant event and Tajikistan placed its hopes on Kazakhstan.
During the conference, it was also noted that Kazakhstan was ready to offer a new concept of reconstruction of Afghanistan’s economy. It comes to a simple formula: development of industrial sector, and as a result, reduction in unemployment rate and rise in living standards will have a wholesome effect on the political situation in the country, the source said.
