KULOB, December 23, 2009, Asia-Plus — The Chernobyl clean operation participants from Khatlon’s Kulob zone have decided to purchase shares in the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP) for 100,000 somoni (TJS).
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Davlatsho Sohibov, the head of the Kulob branch of Tajikistan’s Union of Chernobyl Cleanup Operation Participants, said that every year, they receive funds from the government for one sanatorium voucher. “We held a meeting yesterday and decided to use these funds for purchasing shares in Roghun at one share per one family of the cleanup operation participant,” Sohibov said.
According to him, some 1,000 Chernobyl cleanup operation participants and members of their families now live in the Kulob zone.
