KULOB, February 9, 2010, Asia-Plus  — 88 candidates have been registered to compete for 40 seats in the Kulob legislature (City Majlisi), Davlatsho Sharofuddinov, head of the Kulob city electoral commission, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, four political parties nominated their candidates and there are seven self-propelled candidates.

“The People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) has nominated 40 candidates, the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) – 28 candidates, the Communist Party (CPT) – 12 candidates and the Party of Economic Reforms  – 2 candidates,” said Sharofuddinov, “Besides, one of self-propelled candidates is supported by the Democratic Party (DPT).”

He added that 11 of 88 candidates for the Kulob legislature are women.
