DUSHANBE, February 9, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The republican scientific-practical conference, entitled “The Tajiks and Islamic Culture,” is opening at the Poytakht Center in Dushanbe today.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture (MoC) in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences and Dushanbe mayor’s office, the conference is expected to bring together known Tajik researchers and experts as well guests to discuss issues related to Islamic culture in Tajikistan.

The source at a MoC reminded that Dushanbe had been designated as Capital of Islamic Culture for the year 2010 and the conference is dedicated to that event.  “Following papers will be read at the conference: Role of Dushanbe in Development of Islamic Culture; the Tajiks and Islamic Culture; The Tajiks and Hanafi School; Islamic Values and the Present.

We will recall that under the patronage of President Emomali Rahmon, the Holy Quran was translated and published into the Tajik language and distributed to the Tajik citizens.

In 2009, Dushanbe held an international ceremony under the patronage of President Emomali Rahmon to celebrate the great imam Abu Hanifa al-Nu’man bin Thabit.  Guests from more than fifty countries attended the ceremony. 

This year, Dushanbe will celebrate the 1200th anniversary of the imam of hadith, Muhammad Ibn Ismail, popularly known as Al-Bukhari.
