Self-propelled candidate for parliament from Khorog constituency withdraws from race

KHOROG, February 9, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Self-propelled candidate for the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) from Khorog single-mandate constituency # 41, Mirzosain Ghulomsainov, has withdrawn his candidature from the election, Asia-Plus has learned from Otamsho Maqboulshoyev, head of the electoral commission for this constituency.

According to him, Mirzosain Ghulomsainov, who works as manager for the Pamir Energy Company (PamirEnergy), lodged an application on withdrawing from the election yesterday.

“Now, head of the GBAO regional library Alidod Cahroghabdolov, nominated by the Communist Party (CPT), head of the state committee for statistics Mirgand Shabozov, nominated by the People’s Democratic Party, and teacher from Khorog school # 7 Alim Sherzamonov, nominated by the Social-Democratic Party (SDPT), will compete for a seat in the Majlisi Namoyandagon in the Khorog constituency,” Maqboulshoyev said.

In the meantime, four candidates have been registered to run for election to the Majlisi Namoyandagon in Vanj single-mandate constituency # 40.

Sanavbarsho Rajabov, head of the electoral commission for this constituency, told Asia-Plus today that former chairman of the Vanj district Nazrullo Jonov, nominated by the PDPT, Mamadrahim Kuzov, nominated by the IRPT, and two self-propelled candidates – Shamsmuhammad Nazriyev (head of Badakhshonroh) and Niyozbek Ramazonov (head of the construction department of the Shugnan district) – will compete for a seat in the parliament in this constituency.

A meeting of voters with candidates, nominated for election through a proportional, party list system from a single, countrywide constituency, is expected to take place in Khorog on February 14.
