KHUJAND, February 10, 2010, Asia-Plus — Only 616 computers were delivered to the Sughd province for local schools last year under the school computerization program, which is only 50.4 percent of the target for 2009, according to the Sughd education directorate.
Only the city of Taboshar and Bobonjonghafurov and Istaravshan districts fulfilled their computer delivery targets last year, while the city of Qairoqqum overfulfilled the target by 40 percent.
“In the meantime, Khujand reached only 55.2 percent of the target, Chkalovsk – 37.5 percent, Konibodom – 16.7 percent, Panjakent – 25 percent, Shahriston – 28.6 percent, Asht – 15.2 percent, Spitamen – 6.8 percent, Mastchoh – 17.4 percent and Kuhistoni Mastchoh – 33 percent,” the source said.
According to him, 882 computer classes with a total of 8,777 computers now function at schools in northern Tajikistan. 20 local schools have access to Internet.
In all, there are 896 high schools with a total of 461,717 students, including 224,319 schoolgirls, in the province.
