KHUJAND, February 16, 2010, Asia-Plus – Resident of the city of Istaravshan in Sughd province has been detained for killing his mother.

According to the Sughd police directorate, the body of 49-year-old Mamlakat Oripova and her 26-year-old neighbor Daler Azizov with the three stab wounds were found in her apartment in Istaravshan yesterday night.

The 29-year-old Akmal Mullojonov, the son of Mamlakat Oripova, was detained on suspicion having been involved in the crime. Mullojonov confessed to the crime.

The source at the Istaravshan prosecutor’s office noted that Mullojonov had suspected that his mother has relationship with Daler Azizov and decided to kill her. “The tragedy took place yesterday night at about 10:00 pm,” said the source, “Mullojonov inflicted nine stab wounds on his mother and three stab wounds on Azizov. Mamlakat Oripova died n the spot, while Azizov was taken to the hospital.”

Criminal proceedings against Akmal Mullojonov have been instituted under the provisions of Article 104, part 1 (murder) and an investigation is under way.

It is to be noted that it is already the third case of matricide in northern Tajikistan over the past three months. The first two cases took place in Bobojonghafurv and Asht districts.
