Afghan filmmaker to shoot movie about Afghanistan in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, February 19, 2010, Asia-Plus  — On Friday February 19, Afghan filmmaker Seddiq Abedi, who is currently living in Canada, met with reporters at Tajik Journalists’ Union in Dushanbe.

Mr. Abedi told reporters that he had arrived here to shoot a movie about Afghanistan.  “Some 50 percent of the movie will be shot on the territory of Tajikistan and Tajik actors will also act in the movie,” the filmmaker said, noting that the movie will reflect not only historical and geographical aspects of Afghanistan; it will also reflect mental, cultural and ethnographic features of the country.

According to Mr. Abedi, during his stay his in Dushanbe he held talks with Isomiddin Salohiddinov, chairman of the Executive Committee of the Association of Tajiks and Persian-speaking Peoples of the World, Payvand.  “We discussed prospects of further expansion of cultural cooperation,” he said.
