DUSHANBE, April 15, 2010, Asia-Plus — The president of Tajikistan has the full right to promote his relatives or friends to the leading positions if they have appropriate qualifications.
Suhrob Sharipov, director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan, remarked this at a news conference in Dushanbe on April 15.
According to him, children of the president like children of any other citizen of the country “should adapt to society and determine where they will work; the have the full right to this.”
“Ties of relations have always been used and will continue to be sued in Tajikistan,” said the Tajik think tank head, “This our mentality, relatives always try to keep together. In Tajikistan, ties of relation will be used always and by all. Our political parties may be evidence of that. For instance, the brother of the leader of the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) Muhiddin and the son of the former leader of the IRPT Said Abdullo Nouri are holding high positions in the party, but nobody accuses them of nepotism. One cannot rule out that if this party, for example, will come to power in the country, its leaders will begin to promote their relatives and friends to the leading positions.”
Use of ties of relationship is typical not only for Tajikistan; it is typical for all the Central Asian countries and the majority countries of the world, except several countries in Western Europe where serious demographic problems exist and relatives gradually drifted apart, to use ties of relationship, Sharipov added.
