DUSHANBE, April 17, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Ways to promote development of a program for establishment of business incubators in Gorno Badakhshan was a major topic of a meeting of Asanali Karamaliyev, the deputy head of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), with Arthur Luke, the manager of the GTZ Project, Support to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Tajikistan, which was held here on April 16, according to the CCI press service.

Mr. Luke noted that he had visited Gorno Badakhshan where he had met with heads of organizations interested in the establishment of business incubators in the region.  According to him, they will conduct feasibility study and consider opportunities to support representatives of small and medium-sized business.  Besides, it is also possible to establish cooperation with various international organizations, including the University of Central Asia (UCA).

The CCI deputy chairman, for his part, assured him that CCI would support that proposal because development of SMEs was of significant importance for Gorno Badakhshan.

The establishment of a business incubator provides for determining companies for cooperation.  This preparation will take several years, the CCI press service said.  A board will be set up from among persons concerned and with support from them a program for improvement of business environment in Gorno Badakhshan will be developed.

Business incubators are programs designed to accelerate the successful development of entrepreneurial companies through an array of business support resources and services, developed and orchestrated by incubator management and offered both in the incubator and through its network of contacts.  Incubators vary in the way they deliver their services, in their organizational structure, and in the types of clients they serve. Successful completion of a business incubation program increases the likelihood that a start-up company will stay in business for the long term.
