KHOROG, April 29, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Jubilee medals “65 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945” are being awarded to war veterans and the home front workers living in Gorno Badakhshan.

Zafar Davlatov, the chief of the GBAO military registration and enlistment office, told Asia-Plus that only 35 war veterans now live in the region.

“Some 3,000 residents of Gorno Badakhshan participated in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and some half of them died in battles,” Davlatov said.

According to him, the medals commemorating 65 years since victory in the Great Patriotic War will be awarded to 35 war veterans and 75 home front workers.  The veterans will also receive extraordinary grants.
