KHUJAND, August 25, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Cotton-harvesting campaign has begun in a number of districts in the northern Sughd province.

The source at the Sughd agriculture directorate says the cotton harvesting campaign has been launched in Asht, Spitamen and Bobojonghafurov districts to this day.

Sughd farmers plan to yield 92,000 tons of raw cotton this year with average cotton yields of 1.7 tons per hectare, the source said.

Last year, cotton producing districts in northern Tajikistan 87,105 tons of cotton and average cotton yields were 1.68 tons/ha.
