KHUJAND, October 21, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Muminjon Toshmatov, the head of the branch of Barqi Tojik power holding (Tajik electricity supplier) in Sughd province, told reporters in Khujand on October 20 that electricity rationing will be introduced in the province in early November.

Beginning on November 1, the supply of daily electricity to consumers in Sughd via the South-North power grid will be reduced to 6.2 million kWh.  Besides, local consumers will receive 2.4 million kWh of electric power generated by Qairoqqum power station per day.  In the meantime, the province’s daily requirements in electricity are 10-11 million kWh.

According to him, the Qairoqqum hydropower plant has generated 651 million kWh of electric power over the first nine months of this year, which is 253.7 million KWh more than in the same period last year.  It has become possible due to enough level of water at the reservoir powering the station and operation of all six units of the station, Toshmatov said.
