DUSHANBE, October 21, 2010, Asia-Plus – On Wednesday October 20, Russia’s Supreme Court handed down a ruling on liquidation of the Union of Tajiks in Russia public association following application by the Russian Ministry of Justice.
Russia’s news agency RIA Novosti reports that during the previous hearing that took place on October 5, Abdullo Davlatov, the head of the Executive Committee of the Union of Tajiks in Russia, noted that he agreed with claims of the Ministry of Justice but hope that the organization would be given time to remove shortcomings revealed in its activity.
Representative of the Ministry Justice, for his part, noted that the organization had had enough time to remove the shortcoming as certifications were sent to its members more than year ago.
According to RIA Novosti, the Union of Tajiks was founded in 2007 and it grouped 42 Tajik organizations in Russia.
Adbullo Davlatov told Asia-Plus Thursday afternoon that he is not going to appeal against the court ruling.
“Claims of the Ministry of Justice are quite reasonable,” said Davlatov, “We had to hold the board meetings bimonthly but it is impossible because considerable funds are needed to invite people from all regions of the Russian Federation. Besides, we had to submit reports on membership fees that are compulsory under the Russian legislation. However, the majority of organizations in the regions did not pay the membership fees. The Russian Ministry of Justice also demanded reports on grants received by the organization. We mentioned in our report that we do not receive grants but it turned out that one of organizations that was member of the Union was receiving grants but it did not submit report on those grants to the Union board.”
According to him, the Union of Tajiks (“Tadzhikistantsy”—the non-ethnic term for residents of Tajikistan) was founded in 2007 for the purpose of promoting integration of Tajiks living in the Russia Federation into multiethnic cultural environment of Russia, strengthening of friendship and accord between the peoples, prevention of social, religious and interethnic conflicts, a swell as providing informational and legal assistance to displaced persons and labor migrants.
