DUSHANBE, November 3, 2010, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan rose several places in the Global Competitiveness Report released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
In the Global Competitiveness Report 2010-2011, Tajikistan is ranked 116th among 139 countries, while in the 2009-2010 report that covered 133 major and emerging economies, Tajikistan was ranked 122nd.
Azerbaijan (57th) leads among the CIS nations. Russia is ranked 63rd, Kazakhstan occupies the 72nd place, Ukraine – 89th, Moldova – 94th, Armenia – 98th, and Kyrgyzstan – 121st.
Switzerland tops the overall ranking in The Global Competitiveness Report 2010-2011 released by the World Economic Forum. The United States falls two places to fourth position, overtaken by Sweden (2nd) and Singapore (3rd). The United States, Germany, Japan, Finland, the Netherlands, Denmark and Canada are also among the top 10.
The Global Competitiveness Report is a yearly report and the first report was released in 1979. The report ranks the world”s nations according to the Global Competitiveness Index. The report assesses the ability of countries to provide high levels of prosperity to their citizens. This in turn depends on how productively a country uses available resources. Therefore, the Global Competitiveness Index measures the set of institutions, policies, and factors that set the sustainable current and medium-term levels of economic prosperity.
