DUSHANBE, November 3, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Secular radicalism, which is currently growing in Tajikistan, may contribute to the growth of religious radicalism in the country, Moukhiddin Kabiri, leader of the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan and a deputy of the Lower Chamber of Tajikistan’s Parliament told the reporters.

IRPT leader called the Government’s initiative to return Tajik students from foreign religious universities back to Tajikistan a “good start”.

“However, the initiative may face a series of problems. For example, who is going to teach these students to religious canons upon their arrival back to Tajikistan or do we have any programmes on religious education in the republic. We have to create favorable conditions to teach our citizens inside the country since we will never achieve good results by the use of bans,” he said.

In his comments on recent arrest of one of IRPT members, who was arrested in late October this year in Chorkhuk Jamoat for alleged concealment of IMU member in his property, M. Kabiri noted that the arrested citizen was expelled from the ranks of IRPT 10 years ago.

“Many of those who commit crimes in our republic are active members of that or another political party but only the arrest of IRPT members causes resonance in the society,” Kabiri said.
