Cement prices rise in Tajikistan

Date:

DUSHANBE, November 9, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Prices of local and imported cement have risen in Tajikistan over the past month, according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT).

The source at a MEDT says the price of one ton of Pakistani cement has increased from 800 somoni in early October to 900 somoni.  Specialists attribute rise in Pakistani cement prices to floods in Pakistan that resulted in cement production decreasing.

Prices of local cement have also risen over the report period.  Thus, the price of one ton of Portland cement (OPC) produced by the Dushanbe cement plant has increased from 710 somoni to 833 somoni and the price of one ton of sulfate-resistant cement produced by the Dushanbe plant has increased from 730 to 851 somoni.

The price hike has reportedly resulted from increasing prices of natural gas imported from Uzbekistan.  The price of 1,000 cubic of Uzbek gas has increased from some US$282 at the beginning of the year to US$300.

In the meantime, the price of cement produced by coal-fired cement plants does not exceed 560 somoni per one ton, the source added.
