DUSHANBE, November 9, 2010, Asia-Plus  – An international conference titled “Problems of Modernization and Security of Central Asian Countries and Russia Under New Geopolitical Realities” is being held at Russian-Tajik Slavic University (RTSU) in Dushanbe today.

According to the Russian Embassy in Dushanbe, the conference has brought together leading researchers and political scientists from the Russian Federation, Tajikistan and other Central Asia’s countries to discuss problems of implementation of Tajikistan’s national interests under the conditions of transformation of the main challenges and threats to security in Central Asia.

The conference will also discuss issues related to policy of Russia and other leading states towards Central Asia: analysis of interests; potential of influence and counteraction to new threats; cooperation between Russian and Central Asia’s countries in the context of modernization of the countries of the region; as well as vectors, geopolitical potential of the countries, models, parameters of their interaction.

Special focus will be made on an economic factor and a role of the regional organizations of Central Asia in addressing new challenges and threats, the source said.
