Russian Children’s Ombudsman offers to toughen quarantine procedures for arriving people

DUSHANBE, November 9, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Russian Children’s Ombudsman Pavel Astakhov has offered to toughen quarantine procedures for arriving people.

Russian media report the proposal to toughen the quarantine procedures is connected with recent scandal at one of maternity houses in St. Petersburg, where Tajik woman suffering from open form of tuberculosis gave birth to her child.

Twelve women recently confined and their newly-born babies that were together with that woman in one room found themselves in at-risk group.

According to Astakhov, medical examination of arriving people must be compulsory and all sick persons must be registered.  “Besides, employers must be responsible for authenticity of doctor’s certificates,” the Russian Children’s Ombudsman noted.

In the meantime,

Komsomolskaya Pravda Sankt-Peterburga

cited the source at the maternity house as saying that fortunately, no one of women that were with Tajik woman in one room was infected with TB.

Russian media report that Tajik woman gave birth to a healthy child.
